Why are my landscape lights not working?
Before you call, a few quick checks solve a lot of outages.
- Everything is out: check the outdoor GFCI outlet the transformer plugs into and press reset. Then check the breaker.
- Lights come on at the wrong time: a power outage may have reset the timer. Reset the clock, or check that the photocell is not shaded or dirty.
- One section is out: a cable may have been cut by edging, aeration or irrigation work, or a connection has corroded.
- A single light is out: the lamp or LED module may have failed, or that fixture connection is loose.
- Lights are dim at the far end: the run may be too long for the cable size, or the transformer is overloaded.
What a repair visit covers
A repair visit traces the problem from the transformer to the fixture: voltage at the transformer, voltage at the far fixtures, connections, cable damage and failed lamps. Old halogen systems can often be converted to LED, which runs cooler and draws far less power.
Maintenance that keeps it looking right
Plants grow and shift the light. Once a year, re-aim fixtures that have been bumped, clear foliage off lenses, raise fixtures that mulch has buried and check connections. A system that looked great when new can look tired in a few seasons without it.
